Guimarães

Guimarães is a city brimming with history and tradition founded in the 10th century and known for its well-preserved Historic Centre, listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2001, where you can stroll through its welcoming mediaeval streets that are notable for being inhabited to this day.

You must also visit the holy hill, the city’s highest point, where you will find the 15th-century Palace of the Dukes of Braganza, the Church of São Miguel and the Guimarães Castle, a national symbol closely linked to Alfonso Henriques, the first king of Portugal, who according to tradition was born in Guimarães.

Near the hotel is the Vila Flor Cultural Centre, a space that hosts cultural events and has beautiful gardens; and the leather district, a witness to the city’s mediaeval hide industry (still strong to this day), which boosted Guimarães’ economy.

Beyond the tanneries, Guimarães is known today for its textile and footwear industries, making it a dynamic city attractive to both workers and businesses.

Porto and Braga

We recommend paying a visit to the city of Porto, the country’s capital of the north, which is less than an hour away. There you will find the Duero River, the Porto wineries and the beautiful historic centre.

During your stay, we also recommend you go on a trip to Braga, a religious centre home to countless Baroque constructions, such as the monumental Sanctuary of Bom Jesus do Monte, which is only 25 minutes away.
